Review of Huawei Mate 20 Pro - changing from iPhone to Huawei

After a decade of using apple products, I have decided to move away from my beloved iPhone to the Huawei!
Before getting in to the review, think it is obligatory to list some of the reasons for me to make this decision

- Definitely the price matters, d when Apple took the bold move to raise the entry level price of iPhones almost at par or more with even laptops, it dodn't make sense to that kind of investment. By reading from different news sources, they are more keen on making their profit by increasing the unit cost and not by increasing the unit sales.

- Too quick with basic changes, recently I have bought a MacBook pro and ended up in spending good amount of money on adapters and continue with the nuisance of carrying these all the time. By the way they don't produce all the adapters, so you are forced to depend on third party products.

- Nothing exciting, for the last few years, purely personal opinion, but I am not seeing any wow factor from the recent versions of iPhones

Review of Huawei Mate 20 Pro

The good things about Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Awesome screen

Love the screen, the curved edges and the OLED clarity of the pictures

Face recognition

It is really fast and hardly use the finger scanner for open the phone.

The Camera

Awesome possibilities including the wide angle and the pictures are really good.

Battery life

Really good battery life and the fast charging adaptor is really effective. Mostly I am left with around 60-70% battery by the evening, just a 30 minutes charge in the morning or in the evening with the fast charger makes it full and avoid the need of charging the phone whole night.

The negatives and the things you need to be aware of

Doesn’t work with Android Auto

One of the biggest disappointment was as on Wednesday 14th November 2018, Huawei Mate 20 Pro doesn’t work with Android Auto. I just get a black screen when I connect it.

WhatsApp data transfer (only applicable if you are moving from iPhone to Huawei)

There is not straight forward way to transfer the chat history and the associated media from iPhone to Huawei/Android device. I have used the app called WazzapMigrator (https://www.wazzapmigrator.com/) after spending quiet some time in figuring it out, finally it worked for me.

Aggressive battery saving mode

In order to optimize the battery, Huawei manages the app launch and I had problems with Huawei Mate 20 pro synching with my FitBit. I had to go and make the app launch manual in order it for to work. You can do that from Settings>Battery>App launch

Finger print reader doesn’t always work

With the Huawei Mate 20 pro, finger print reader always work I had to re-register the finger prints many times to ensure that it works.
